Place Stanislas Light and Sound – a series of sketches

Place Stanislas is in my opinion the main attraction in Nancy, France. The square was designed by a man called Stanislas! Throughout the summer months there is a light & sound show where all the hotels, restaurants etc… turn off their lights ready for the show which turns corners and covers the entirety of the square.
The show is composed of historical facts about the buildings in the square, some more modern elements using the light as a tool for shape and colour mark makings, and finally this year because it in the centurion of the beginning of ww1 there was a section dedicated to the soldier’s remembrance.
The ww1 remembrance was accompanied by a song by Edith Piaf, and although not directly related, the song with the imagery of soldiers, families and fields of poppies is very moving.
I love the layers of the building with the lights projected on top, it subtlety distorts the imagery and inspired me to create a series of drawings using contrasting mediums to suitably create a hard, architectural sketch, layered with a palpable yet ghostly medium to project the light.
